Shanghai - 1 year

Today, exactly 365 days ago…our adventure in Shanghai has begun! I can't believe that we've been already living here for a whole year!

Living abroad is an experience which I wouldn't want to miss anymore. It does not only change my point of view - I think this experience changes my life.

Personal growth is definitely one of the biggest advantages of living in a foreign country. You become  much more aware of the world around you. You constantly try and learn new things. Almost every day you are confronted with something challenging and new! Of course, it is not always nice and easy. Especially in the beginning there are a lot of issues: The culture shock, the language barrier and the struggle with adjusting to the new environment - but  after a while you will learn to deal with these problems, you will get much more confident and also gain higher tolerance. These experiences, the good and the bad ones, are lessons for life, really open your mind and stay as memories…

…moving into a new home…

…seeing Shanghai's nice sides - blue skies (a rare thing)...

 …beautiful sunrises and sunsets...

…attending nice events…

... eating delicious food...

…trying to learn Mandarin…

...seeing Shanghai's bad sides - "Airpocalypse"...

…seeing the snow falling in the city...
.

…getting a little bit of christmas feeling (even though Chinese people don't celebrate it)...

…having kittens in our apartment…

…adopting one of them…

…getting another family member...

...seeing them grow...

…feeling sad for the poor frogs at the supermarket ...

…and for the poor puppies in the small crates at the petstore… :(

…trying new things...

…relaxing at the outdoor swimming pool in Summer...

…having cool nights out...

 …dressing up on Halloween...

…reading strange English subtitles...

…going to the "Oktoberfest"...

…having a cat surgery in our kitchen…

…moving again...

…last but not least, traveling to new places…
